Mysterious monuments rise in the steppe—ancient altar or Mongol firepit? A silent enigma on the road to the Singing Dune in Altyn-Emel
Oshaktas is a mysterious monument in Altyn-Emel National Park: three massive stone steles standing alone in the steppe. Their origin is unknown. Legends link them to Genghis Khan’s army, who supposedly built a giant fireplace here. Others believe they were ancient signal towers or ritual altars of the Saka nomads from the 1st millennium BC.
